Halifax-Dartmouth Real Estate Market Update: September 2026
If you've been waiting for a calmer housing market in Halifax-Dartmouth, September 2026 may be the month you've been looking for. Sales are up, prices are holding steady, and buyers have more homes to choose from than they've had in years. Here's what the latest numbers from the Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA) tell us about the HRM housing market, and what it means for you.
More Homes Sold This September
434 homes sold across Halifax-Dartmouth in September, up 4.1% from 417 last September. Total sales volume reached just over $254 million, up 4.5%. Year to date, 3,829 homes have sold, which is 6.9% fewer than this time last year, so September was a welcome bump after a quieter spring and summer.
Halifax led the way, with 123 sales, up 24.2% from a year ago. Dartmouth saw 76 sales, up 8.6%, and Bedford posted 29 sales, up 3.6%.
Prices Holding Steady
The average sale price in Halifax-Dartmouth was $585,650, up just 0.4% from last year. The median price was $545,000, up 0.9%. In plain terms, prices are flat to slightly up year over year.
The MLS® Home Price Index benchmark, which tracks the price of a "typical" home, came in at $541,700, down 4.1% from last September and 3.9% from August. That's a sign prices have cooled from their spring highs.
